Installation of 6 South Pars platforms projected by Mar. 2019

Based on the planning made by Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), which is in charge of developing Iran’s South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf, six platforms will be installed on their designated offshore spots in different development phases of the field by the end of current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2019), a director in POGC announced.

Ali Afarideh Qiasi, the director for planning and control of projects in POGC, said construction of the platforms at Sadra yard in the southwestern province of Bushehr has 85-95 percent progress for the moment, and of the nine platforms, which are being built in this yard, six ones will be completed and ready for installation by the yearend, Shana news agency reported.

South Pars gas field, which Iran shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf, covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which, called South Pars, are in Iran’s territorial waters. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, called North Dome, are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.

The field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
